Sweet goodness! It's fall! What do you know. The seasons always change so subtly, with so much mystery and grace and flow. What do you love most about the seasonal shifts? Do you have any sensual memories this time of year? Perhaps the drift of the breeze and the smells bring you emotions you almost forgot about. I know they do, for me. It feels so good to receive this unconditional love from Mother Nature. She is so loving.
We are collecting and saving our seeds from pawpaws, apples, pears, cherries even tropical fruits because it's important to save seeds. We are stratifying a few dozen sweet cherry seeds in our freezer right now, and soon will be doing the same with the pawpaws and others.
Though we are going to be starting these plants next spring, we are really focusing in on receiving plants that already are a few years old and can be planted and begin to be producing fruits within the next few years.
We are in the planning stages of creating a kickstarter campaign and video that you can watch so you can learn more about what the Blueberry Project wants to do and how you can help us do it!
Do you want to be a steward of a fruit tree for your neighborhood?
Do you want to see more fruit trees growing, seemingly wild, close to home?
Do you think the cost of fresh, organic produce is ridiculous?
If so, stay tuned to what we are sharing so we can help you make this a reality!
We all know we need to plant more trees, because they help us breathe and give us shelter and tons of other things. So if you are going to plant a tree, why not plant a fruit tree?

The Pace is Picking Up...
We are so ecstatically excited!! A lot of amazing manifestations have been occurring. We have spreading the word like wildfire..and we are now open to donations, whether by way of trees, funding, and/or physical assistance. You are, in fact, donating simply by reading this sentence!! Mind is the most powerful asset we have..and we have a lot of it! ;)
Really, though, this project is growing like a forest in itself. We have had offers for several blueberry bushes that need loving spaces to grow, and a few weeks ago we were also offered fig tree saplings to plant in our nearby forest. Today (which also happened to be my, Amanda's, birthday) we planted these trees with the gracious help of a new friend named Tommy, who also generously donated funds to the Blueberry Project and related endeavors. Right now we are focusing on spreading the word and raising funds for the project. Our goal is to take our blighted empty lots and bring them back to life and diversity. Our first step is informing people about our mission and vision. We are working on cleaning up the local green spaces and planting attractive and useful plants that grow food for all of us. Together, we are shifting the collective mentality from dependence to interdependence - from death and decay to growth and renewal.
It is our intention to use what we receive to learn as much as we can about growing food sustainably. We want to make it clear that this means we need to travel the planet to gain knowledge and real, working experience.
If the food system shut down tomorrow, we would not have enough food growing in our wild area to feed everyone, and we can only rely on the packaged food from the grocery stores for so long until it all runs out. What would we do? This is not merely a hypothetical scenario; this is a very real possibility. It is our responsibility now to take the appropriate action and create a sustainable food system: one that is localized, organic, and non-profit based. One that serves to help the whole collective, not just a select few.
I know we will accomplish this. How long is takes is not of consequence; when we trust in the earth's natural timing, everything happens exactly when it's supposed to.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

The Dream
Yesterday morning, I was still dreaming. I was in that state where you aren't sleeping anymore but you're not fully awake, either. I was coming into awareness of my body laying there on the floor (I don't sleep in a bed), and sometime during this interval I received what many people familiar with channeling would call a "thought-block" or an "idea cluster" or plainly "a message". However you want to put it, I clearly heard the words "The Blueberry Project" accompanied by a series of images, ideas, and seed desires to be realized sometime in the future. I could've just decided to tell you I had an idea, but know that it wasn't really my idea, not in the conventional sense anyway. I was given this Project as an assignment by my Divine Connection, or what you could call my "higher self." Or God, if you're so inclined.
So what is the Blueberry Project? Well, let me first give you some history- stories that will show you why this is so important to me, and to everyone who can remember.
When my mom was a little girl, she lived in the North Hills near this park where there were really beautiful forests. We still go there sometimes, and it's really fun to explore and play in. When she was a kid, there were whole areas of the forest where patches of blueberry and blackberry bushes grew in abundance. She could spend hours in those forests eating berries until her face was blue. Now, those bushes are all but gone due to home development projects and the lack of public pressure to preserve them.
When I was little, I lived in North Allegheny, and my back yard was half forest. At the edge of the forest there were black raspberry bushes. MMM! I can still remember the delicious taste of those amazing berries. We never forget those precious sense-memories of childhood, even after probably 35 years in my mother's case. Well, when I was 7 we moved to Brighton Heights in the North Side, and shortly afterwards we discovered some boison-berry (or mulberry, not sure) trees growing close by (and I plan on harvesting from these this July). We also planted a blueberry bush in our backyard last summer, and she is growing fruits!
I grew up reading Blueberries For Sal, the children's book about the little girl named Sal who meets a bear who is also picking blueberries in her wild blueberry patch. Remember this book? I would imagine how much fun Sal feels being able to pick all the wild blueberries she wants, and how satisfying it is for her to be able to eat all the fresh picked fruit she desires! We never forget our memories of picking, tasting, eating fresh berries off the bush as children. I want to bring these abundant berry patches back into our home city, so everyone can enjoy these warm feelings together again.
That is the essence of The Blueberry Project. It's not complex; it's really just my desire to see us all being able to enjoy some of the simplest pleasures in life - berry picking in our own home forests.
